Green Awards fail to pick packaging winner

The Green Awards failed to select a winner in the packaging category last night – the only category of 16 to have no winner.

Neither The One Off’s Hape Eco Toys packaging nor The Wool Packaging Company’s Abel & Cole packaging succeeded in impressing the judges this year.

‘I feel deflated that the awards weren’t more action-oriented,’ says The One Off managing director Adam Devey-Smith. ‘I would have liked to have seen a much more grassroots evaluation of the work, looking at the effectiveness of the packaging as well as its Green credentials’.

The One Off claims that its Hape packaging is recycled, recyclable and reusable. ‘There is a purist view that packaging has to be perfect, which means no packaging, but that is often not practical. Our view is that the more commercially successful sustainable packaging is, the more you have changed people’s behaviour, and that should be rewarded’.

The award for best Green new media went to Green Thing for its Glove Story e-commerce initiative, which pairs and sells single, donated gloves.

The Green Awards has named Keep Britain Tidy as its grand prix winner for the Food on the Go campaign aimed at young people dropping litter.
