“If I were a giant…” illustrations, by Book People

School children’s imaginative drawings have been recreated graphically in this BFG-inspired project.

Consultancy Book People has collaborated with St. Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in West Yorkshire on a set of illustrations to coincide with the release of Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s BFG.

Designers took inspiration from a class of six- to seven-year-olds who were tasked with drawing themselves as giants, turning the best two drawings into cartoons.

Designer at The Book People, Dave Ellis, says: “Working from children’s drawings is a great challenge for any designer or illustrator as you’re forced to work with constraints that you wouldn’t ordinarily have.

“You find yourself working with colour palettes and compositions that are way out of your comfort zone. Finding a way to work with these limitations is a great way to push yourself and develop your skills.”
