Consultancy Layer has designed a collection of ceramic trays which can charge mobile and tablet devices.

The Charge Tray aims to “minimise the visual impact of technology in the home”, says the consultancy’s founder Benjamin Hubert, and works by wirelessly charging devices when they’re placed on top of it through a silicone module underneath the tray.

Hubert says: “Charge Tray uses craft to softly and simply integrate smart technology within the home and make it more desirable”.

The trays can also be used to store and display other small items. There are four different sizes and four glazed finishes, including salt, matt, crackle and soba, which mimic palettes used in the ceramics industry.

Layer worked with Bitossi Ceramiche on the project.
