Cradle collection chairs, by Layer
Consultancy Layer has created a new series of mesh chairs, which aim to be a lighter, more cost-effective alternative to upholstered chairs.
They are made of a metal frame supporting a textile backrest, which fits around an upholstered seating block.
It uses a 3D-knitted material made of polypropylene and flame-resistant textile Trevira CS which aims to make the chairs both “strong” and “visually light and transparent”, says Layer.
This material makes the chair physically supportive, and also means it is lighter to carry and cheaper to make, the consultancy says.
There are three products in the series, including a high-back chair, a low-back chair and a room divider.
