Transportation Design students at the Art Center College of Design in California, have created car design concepts aimed at “Generation Alpha” – anyone born after the year 2010.

The Design for Alpha competition, sponsored by manufacturing company SABIC, saw three winners, John McCarthy, Eric Sun and Axel Kukjian, who will be awarded with scholarships of $5,000, $3,000 and $1,000 respectively.

The competition was judged by 14 professionals from Ford, GM, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla and Volkswagen.

“We were delighted with the high calibre of the designs submitted and were inspired by the students’ creativity,” says Scott Fallon, general manager of automotive at SABIC’s Innovative Plastics.

He adds: “In Design for Alpha, their imaginations went into overdrive as they embraced the design freedom of thermoplastics and opened their minds to new shapes, functions and all kinds of possibilities.”
