Heston Blumenthal restaurant installation, by Seymourpowell

In keeping with chef Heston Blumenthal’s wacky culinary style, Seymourpowell has designed a mechanical, miniature sweet shop which will be used in his Berkshire restaurant Fat Duck.

The scale model Victorian sweet shop is used to serve the final course of Blumenthal’s tasting menu, through a series of mechanical cogs and pulleys which are activated by turning a brass handle.

Other elements include flickering candlelight, small people walking past, puffs of smoke billowing from the chimney and 48 drawers which open and close when a diner inserts a coin.

It is set upon a hand-carved wooden trolley, and aims to combine “exquisite cabinetmaking and craftsmanship” with “high-end technology” to create a “unique dining experience”, says Seymourpowell chief creative Ade Caroen.
