Danish consultancy Kontrapunkt has designed the branding and packaging for new frozen bakery goods brand Jalm&B, aiming to “combine frozen food with fine craftsmanship.”

Kontrapunkt created the name, visual identity and packaging design for the range. According to the consultancy, the challenging part of the brief was ensuring this heritage was shown in packaging for a frozen foods brand.

The consultancy says: “We resolved this by creating a bold visual identity rooted in the fine craftsmanship and turned the ampersand into a distinct visual element to ensure shelf – and freezer standout. We also chose transparent packs with a frosty finish.”

The logo mark uses a monochrome ampersand device in a chunky, Victorian-style typeface, embellished with floral illustrations. Elsewhere in the branding a mixture of understated serif and sans serif type is used.

The frosted packaging material gives the packs a tactility, and aims to give the products a modern and premium feel.

The name Jalm&B was chosen as a tribute to the founder and owners of the Trainon bakery, which founded Jalm&B with Italian bakery Il Fornaio.
