Leeds-based studio Brass has created 40 animations for new CBBC show The Pets Factor, a children’s documentary series that goes behind the scenes of UK veterinary practices.  Brass was brought in to work on the project by production company True North, and created animations of each of the animals, the four vets featured in the show and the introductory title sequence.

Brass worked on the animations for five months using a puppeteering technique that saw them use real life footage that was then animated one frame at a time. These animations were then cut back into filmed footage alongside music, sound effects and voiceovers.

According to Brass creative director Andrew Brown, the studio was briefed to “bring out the personality of the animals and tell the stories that led to their visit to the vets.” He says: “This was a huge but incredibly interesting and fulfilling project. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to practise the latest animation techniques.”

The first episode of The Pets Factor can be seen on BBC iPlayer.
