BAT Studio has created a pop-up store for London’s Science Museum, which is open at Bluewater shopping centre.

The consultancy says: “Reminiscent of jars of sweets, racks filled with brightly coloured test tubes are mounted on the walls creating texture. The aesthetic features furniture constructed from utilitarian galvanised steel channel and cable tray, the sorts of building materials commonly found employed in uncelebrated building services – the science behind buildings.”

To highlight the air ducts and other services in the high ceiling, the lighting concept throws coloured light upwards (predominantly blue) into the ceiling space and cool white light downwards illuminating the product displays, using a with a mix of flood and spot fittings.
