Scotland baby box, by Leanne Young

Graphic design student Leanne Young has been announced as the winner of a competition in Scotland to design a “baby box” for its new nationwide scheme.

The scheme will see every new-born baby in the country receive a box of 40 different items, including clothing, bedding and toys, with the aim of improving child health and tackling infant mortality.

Young’s design features a Scottish forest fairy tale scene with Highland cows, squirrels and the Loch Ness Monster, which can be customised and decorated by families.

The Edinburgh Napier University student’s submission was chosen from more than 70 entries in the design competition run by V&A Museum of Design Dundee, which is set to open in 2018.

It will feature on boxes to be given to new-borns from this summer 2017 until March 2019.
