Sesame Street autistic character debut, by Sesame Street

TV show Sesame Street has found a sensitive way to teach children about autism, through the introduction of a new animated puppet character.

Julia is the latest addition to Sesame Street, and lives with autism. The latest episode shows her playing and interacting with other characters, and demonstrates how although her behaviour differs from those around her, this does not hinder her friendships.

The introduction of Julia aims to explain the condition to children gently in a way they will understand, and teach them how to be patient with and understanding of those who live with autism.
