Design Bridge has designed a smile-activated installation for Lyle’s Golden Syrup, which uses facial recognition software to dispense the liquid.

Rise & Smile is part of Tate & Lyle Sugars’ new breakfast marketing campaign, Smiles with Lyle’s, and is a giant replica of a Lyle’s Golden Syrup tin holding 5kgs of syrup.

The design includes a Victorian-inspired three-legged stand, and pressure gauge with copper piping, alongside replica syrup made from acrylic on top of the installation.

“We wanted to use a sense of humour through the design and delivery of the installation to ensure even the grumpiest of people would be grinning from ear to ear after their smile machine experience,” says Laurent Robin-Prevallee, 3D creative director at Design Bridge.

Design Bridge collaborated with Helix 3D on the project, who built the smile machine, and Slice, who developed the brand experience.

The dispenser, which started off based at Victoria train station in London, is currently touring the country.
