Inspired – Bob Chan
Working within a medium that’s constrained by time, I guess my greatest source of inspiration comes from the constant pursuit of flow. Recognising moments where individuals have perfected flow excites me the most.
To date I’ve discovered the spaces between the opening notes of Debussy’s ’Clare de Lune’, Diego Maradona’s spellbinding second goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, the silky rhymes of Eric B & Rakim’s ’I Know You Got Soul’, the metaphoric prose of Cormac McCarthy and Ronnie Barker’s ’fork ’andles’ sketch, Henri Cartier-Bresson’s decisive moment in Alicante, the rubber-band bass lines of Bernard Edwards, the hustle of Muhammad Ali’s pre-fight trash talk (pictured) and, finally, the epic bone-to-space-vessel moment from Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
These magical moments are rare but can crop up anywhere, at any time. My choices embrace this wide spectrum and it’s the continual discovery of these perfect moments that motivates me.
