Interbrand looks to expand Indian presence

Interbrand has opened a Mumbai office ahead of a raft of appointments as it looks to strengthen its position in India.

Viren Razden has been named as managing director of the new office and is working from a temporary space in Mumbai.

Interbrand chief executive Jez Frampton (pictured) says, ’We are setting up a permanent office and are in discussions with a number of people.’

The consultancy has been looking at how to make inroads into India for two years, according to Frampton, who says Interbrand was working with a licensee in India, but terminated this deal to set up a wholly-owned outpost there.

A permanent office is being sought and appointments will be made by December for senior strategists and analysts before creative appointments are made next year.

Staff will be relocated from global Interbrand offices and external appointments made. Frampton confirms that Sudhir Sharma, founder of Indi Design, is one of a number of people being considered for a creative position. Razden, who has been at the temporary office for six months, is working closely with Interbrand’s UK and Singapore offices, which continue to work on Indian projects remotely.

The Indian office will work with global brands including engineering and consumer goods brand Godrej, as well as ’partnering local brands’, according to Razden, who says, ’Absorbing a local cultural context – that’s the priority.’
