Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby, who led the Design Interactions programme at the Royal College of Art, have been appointed to teach at the New School in New York, which includes Parsons School of Design.

Dunne and Raby announced last March that they were leaving the RCA to focus on their own practice.

Dunne has been on the RCA research and teaching staff since 1994, when he completed a PhD in computer related design at the institution.

In 2005 he was made Professor and Head of Interaction Design and in 2006 the programme was renamed Design Interactions. Raby, who holds an MPhil in Computer Related Design from the RCA, was a Reader in Design Interactions.

The pair have now been appointed as professors of Design and Emerging Technology at the New School.

The New York institution says the pair will work “to develop cutting-edge approaches to pedagogy and research at the intersections of social and natural sciences, design and technology”.

New School provost Tim Marshall says: “Dunne & Raby’s pioneering and thoughtful approach to design fits nicely with The New School’s innovative approach to integrative and collaborative learning.

“Their inspiration and insight will help our students to not only prepare for, but also help shape our social and technological futures.”

The school adds that Dunne & Raby’s appointment will also help drive Its exploration of collaborations with other universities, including the MIT Media Lab, from which Dunne & Raby received the inaugural Media Lab Award in 2015.
