The Department of Transport’s in-house design team needs a little more sensitivity.

This sign showing a doddery couple was designed in-house, but The Association of Retired Persons Over 50 has taken offence.

Its members find the sign insulting. Many people over 50 are fit and active and do not need the protection of special signs, says the association.

Transport Secretary Sir George Young (over 50 himself) is considering a new design, according to reports.
