Bentz officially ceased to be chairman of the Fitch board at the beginning of the year, a fact that has been kept secret until now. He will still be involved in the group, but his role has yet to be finalised.

Bentz has been with the consultancy since 1992, when Brand Trust, together with Terence Conran, invested £2.5m in Fitch, which was then facing bankruptcy.

Most recently Bentz helped steer Fitch through its delisting and its acquisition by Lighthouse Global Network and its subsequent purchase by present parent Cordiant Communications Group.
