Gainsborough Studio writes its own sequel

Design work on the £32m redevelopment of the studios where Alfred Hitchcock made many of his early films will come up for grabs in the next year.

Gainsborough Studios in Shoreditch, east London, is being rebuilt as a mixed business and residential development.

Keith Meehan, managing director of the developer Gainsborough Studios, says that design appointments, which will be made “in the next 12 months”, will concentrate on the commercial areas of the development. Building work starts next month.

The project will create 77 live/ work units, 170 homes, a restaurant, offices and parking for 176 cars, plus filming facilities.

Architect Munkenbeck & Marshall Architects will create the interiors for all common areas of the complex. It will also have input into graphics.

The development is expected to take two years to complete.
