SCG lands German post office project

SCG London is creating the corporate identity and store interiors for a new retail sub-brand of Deutsche Post, the German postal service.

The brand, which is yet to be named, will be rolled out to all 15 000 German post offices over the next two years. Prototype outlets will be opened in September.

Deutsche Post has outlets ranging in size from flagship city branches to sub post offices in local village shops.

SCG London managing director Clive Woodger says: “This project reflects the recognition of the German service sector to develop and offer customer-led ‘solutions’ while they still enjoy the protections of monopolies.

“The real challenge is creating a change of culture and developing flexible self-service retail presentation and communication. The potential is particularly exciting given the scale of the market.”

Woodger adds that Deutsche Post was interested in SCG’s international retail experience in a wide range of sectors and mediums.

Despite its greater geographic size, Germany has less than the 19 000 post offices operational in the UK.

Deutsche Post was unavailable for comment as Design Week went to press.
