Digit idents win Best of Show at DW Awards

Digital media group Digit has scooped the Best of Show Award in the 2001 Design Week Awards for its screen idents for interactive music channel MTV2 On Air. The project also won the TV, film and video category.

The awards judges, chaired by Malcolm Garrett of AMX, also made a Special Award this year: to Marks Barfield Architects for the British Airways London Eye.

As for the 20 main categories, there was no award in consumer products. But the industrial design prize went to Brothers Palisade for the Tangorail adjustable fencing system. There were two furniture design winners, German designer Jakob Gebert’s Taino chair for Vitra and Paul Johnson’s Russian Dolls storage system.

Interiors winners include Nowicka Stern for Another.com’s London offices and Wilkinson Eyre Architects for the Deep Blue café at the Science Museum’s new Wellcome Wing. Retail yielded two winners: Architect Hawkins Brown for Hackney’s Bradbury Street Community Workshops and Carte Blanche for the British Museum’s Grenville Shop.

The Wellcome Wing scored a second hit in the permanent exhibitions category for Casson Mann. Thomas Heatherwick Studio won the temporary exhibition prize for Glasgow’s Identity Crisis show.

Williams Murray Hamm took the identity prize with branding for organic foodstore Here!. Radley Yeldar and Tucker Clarke-Williams Creative took annual reports awards, for reports for Comic Relief and Manchester’s Youth Justice Trust respectively.

Williams and Phoa won an award for The Apartments brochure. The direct mail prize went to BHWG Proximity for its Passat Fleet Book for Volkswagen. Michael Nash won editorial design with Kevin Gould’s Dishy cookbook. DA won the print award for the Salvation Army’s Meyouheshehimherthings campaign.

French group Cent Degres Design won branded packaging for Jean-Paul Gaultier’s fragile perfume packs. The own-brand packaging award went to Lewis Moberly’s Diva range for Waitrose.

Interactive media was divided into three categories. JKD won the retail category with www.johnlewis.com; NB Studio won the information category for www.knollint.com; and Pre Consultants won the promotional category with www.steaming sushi.com.
