Hemisphere to design IWMN exhibition on Don McCullin

Imperial War Museum North has appointed Hemisphere to design an exhibition of work by war photographer Don McCullin.

Hemisphere competed against Wonder Associates, The King’s Arms and Mark Studio to win the museum appointment in a four-way creative pitch.

The consultancy’s director Sue Vanden says, ‘The brief was based on the fact that it’s not just a photography exhibition. It’s about the importance of photojournalism.’

The exhibition will include more than 200 photographs and objects to show how McCullin’s life has been shaped by war.

Hemisphere’s pitch proposed unconventional production techniques, such as printing photographs on to canvas and Perspex, to show McCullin’s photographs on a larger scale.

The exhibition will open in Manchester in February before moving to Bath in September, and will be installed at the Imperial War Museum London in October 2011.
