Future designers unleash their burning ambitions

In June, the Design Council’s Designers into Schools initiative, which replaces Design in Education Week, gets off to a fiery start as kids at one notorious south London school go mad with the matches.

The design workshop is brought to an abrupt halt, just four and a half minutes into the session, when children start setting fire to a demonstration table. The fire spreads, burning down three blocks in the school and razing an adjacent housing estate to the ground.

The Design Council says that it will press ahead with its initiative, despite early reports of burning classrooms in Newcastle, Swansea, Leicester…
