The increasing competition between colleges to attract students is leading to more emphasis on the effectiveness of prospectus design. And when 4i was appointed to design Ravensbourne

College of Design and Communication’s 1998/9 prospectus, the London design consultancy had a good look at rival colleges’ offerings only to discover that the majority were surprisingly difficult to read. Hence clarity was a key aim of 4i’s design, alongside a stylish-ness potential students would expect from a design college.

Set the task of designing a digital radio, Ravensbourne College students came up with a variety of solutions. Three designs were singled out for prizes by the judges of the BBC’s Design a Radio of the Future competition. The winning design (top) is by second year students Carsten Schweig, Mike Wong and Ben Bisek, who collect 750 and a trip to the IFA electronics trade fair in Berlin next month where their model will be exhibited. Second prize went to Tom Davis for ‘3dom’ (below) and the third prize was awarded to Scott Chaps, Tony Morgan and Marcus Stephens for their design.
