Firbank Kempster has beaten an all-American pitch list to design and construct a multi million pound interactive centre for Lucent Technologies.
The centre, called the Global Solutions Centre, will be one of five new buildings designed to function as the systems and technology company’s headquarters. The consultancy won the work against US groups in an unpaid creative pitch.
The 668m2 Global Solutions Centre will incorporate a reception area, a display sector for Bell Laboratories’ innovations, plus dining facilities, comfort rooms and a mixed media auditorium.
“The auditorium will present an experience of Lucent’s heritage and a glimpse into the future,” says Firbank Kempster group marketing director Ian Denny. “It will be used as a marketing tool specifically for Lucent’s high-level visitors,” he adds.
“Access to the Lucent experience will be via a ‘Stargate-like’ entrance, which leads the visitor to a 30-seat presentation platform,” says Denny.
A virtual reality “host” will lead the audience through a Lucent Technologies presentation.
The consultancy’s US office will provide local support to the design team based in the UK. The project is being led by group managing director David Hall and the centre is due to open in mid-1997.
