Business Links has a way to go

The Business Links network has yet to fulfil its potential, says The Chartered Society of Designers in evidence submitted to the House of Commons Trade and Industry Committee inquiry into the network.

The CSD concludes that the network of design counsellors still has a long way to go to develop fully and it has “yet to make a major impact or to achieve national consistency”, according to the report. The trade body drew its conclusions after researching the views of some 100 selected members.

The Design Council has also submitted evidence. “It’s difficult to draw hard and fast conclusions yet, but we do support the Business Links and Design Links concept,” says the council’s design director Sean Blair.

The Design Business Association chose not to submit evidence to the inquiry. “It’s early days yet and we’re reserving our judgement,” says DBA chief executive Ian Rowland-Hill.

Meanwhile, John Stoddard and Tim Brown from IDEO have emerged as two further members of Peter Sampson’s Design Links London team (DW 5 April). The full line-up is still under wraps.
