Lloyd Northover Citigate taps into a water deal

Lloyd Northover Citigate has designed the inaugural corporate identity for Sutton and East Surrey Water – the recently merged company formed by Sutton District Water and East Surrey Water.

Although the merger was announced at the end of 1995, it only became effective on 1 April. Lloyd Northover Citigate won the job on the strength of its proposals and previous work for East Surrey Water.

The new identity is designed to build on and reflect the previous companies’ standing as arguably two of the best suppliers in the UK in terms of customer service, water quality and reduction of leakage.

Lloyd Northover Citigate creative director Hugh Oxborrow says: “The new identity features the ‘S wave’ symbol and the new name. It demonstrates the company’s commitment to providing a first class, local service.”

The identity is currently being introduced across all applications, a task which should be completed within the next few months.

Vehicles, staff uniforms, signage, stationery and literature are all being tackled.

Oxborrow describes the project as a classic identity job. The new company is not thought to be vulnerable to a takeover bid or to have acquisition aspirations, “though those questions were obviously asked”, says Oxborrow.
