A roster of exhibition design specialists is to be set up by Science & Media, a partnership formed by the Science Museum and Fleming Media to create a series of globally touring exhibitions.

The company’s chief executive Sara Milne aims to put together a pool of designers, which will be brought in to develop Science & Media’s ‘The Science of…’ series of annual exhibitions. The work will encompass exhibition environments, branding, products and television extensions.

Milne is looking to build a small, in-house team of ‘about seven’, but says that much of the work will be outsourced. The company will also need temporary teams to work on a project-by-project basis.

‘We will probably end up with a roster of designers. We will also have a lot more flexibility to outsource to different media sectors, using a mixed-media crossover in the way we tell [exhibition] stories.’

Science & Media’s opening exhibition is The Science of Aliens, which launches at the Science Museum in London in October. Future topics will cover speed, crime and sound. Designers are yet to be appointed for these projects.
