The pilot store for a new technology retailing concept is getting a low-key opening in Reading on 22 December.

The IT Works is a collaboration between electrical retailer Comet and BT and is billed as the UK’s first total technology centre. Design work is by Cobalt, which merged with The Jenkins Group this autumn. Cobalt created the interiors, logo, graphics and uniforms and is now working on marketing and communications.

The concept, which offers a total communications solution, was researched in the US. It will cater for knowledgeable and discerning customers.

The Reading concept will be tested for six months before further stores are opened.
