South Africa’s prison-turned-museum Robben Island has a new logo created by KSDP Pentagraph’s Cape Town office.

The consultancy won the job after 22 designers submitted more than 200 concepts in a public competition. The winning entry received 1250.

KSDP director Eduard du Plessis describes the logo as an interpretation of the transformation from oppression to freedom.

The museum reopened on Tuesday with a revamped shop, embarkation office, signage, stationery and marketing material designed by KSDP.

The logo will also appear on the new Robben Island ferry.
