Changing ways for DW survey

Top-level changes expected this week at Sainsbury’s should speed up the appointment of a new design director to replace Steven Gravelle, who left the supermarket chain last month.

‘We want to replace him somehow, but specifics won’t be clear until the company restructure has settled down,’ says Mike Conolly, director of operational marketing. Conolly has taken over some of Gravelle’s responsibilities in the interim.

Design Week’s Top 100 consultancy survey will take a different form this year. The listings will be based on turnover generated through design work rather than on the number of full-time designers employed.

The 1996 survey will again be conducted by independent management consultant Ian Cochrane of Ticegroup. The results will be published in the issue of 29 March, with an analysis by design discipline appearing in 5 April issue.

Now in its 11th year, DW’s survey is acknowledged by Government, clients, the media and international design bodies as one of the most authoritative studies of the UK design business.

For a free entry in the 1996 listings, look out for the form in next week’s issue (DW 19 January) and make sure it is completed by the right person. Closing date for entries is 31 January.
