Further speculation over the future format of the Design Museum’s much-hyped Designer of the Year competition has been fuelled with the news that the contest will not be supported by an exhibition this year.

The competition itself will continue but it will be postponed until later this year, says a spokeswoman for the Design Museum. She confirms that the competition’s format is still being ‘reconsidered’.

Deyan Sudjic, director at the Design Museum, is seeking to evolve the contest, which gained notoriety under his predecessor, Alice Rawsthorn. He first revealed his intentions to tweak the competition last September.

Specific details have yet to emerge and the Design Museum remains tight-lipped over its exact intentions for the competition.
