Goodwood challenge gets Design Acumen in a lather

The thought of watching soapboxes travelling at speeds of up to 50mph downhill is enough to get anyone’s pulses racing, but watching it happen is simply not enough for one highly charged design consultancy.

The Design Acumen has entered its Cool Box (you could have come up with a better name, chaps) into the Goodwood Gravity Racing Club Soapbox Challenge, part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed from 12-14 July. Among the 27 competitors are Bentley Motors, Ford, Jaguar, General Motors, McLaren and Lotus, so the consultancy will have its work cut out to achieve a respectable finish.

‘It’s a great feeling to go downhill at 50mph without an engine, but those corners certainly get the adrenaline pumping,’ says driver Nigel Lawson. Yes, fantastic – if you’ve got a death wish.
