Until 14 March, Rosy Cheeks and Harsh Realities presents a selection of watercolours showing how children growing up in rural areas were portrayed by artists during the 19th and 20th centuries. Contrasting with the sentimental pictures are journal reports and illustrations exposing the harsh realities of rural life at the time.

Venue: Manchester Art Gallery, Mosley Street, Manchester M2 3JL.
