Glasgow may extend scheme

Glasgow Collection director Bruce Wood is looking to extend the initiative, which puts designers and manufacturers together on live projects, for a further three years.

The scheme is due to end in March 2000. But Wood, who is on secondment from Glasgow School of Art, maintains it will take longer to reach its full potential to build local industry.

The Glasgow Collection was set up in 1997 and has been funded by the Glasgow Development Agency, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Scottish Design. Either the designer or the manufacturer of any project has to be based in Scotland.

The collection, currently on show at The Lighthouse in Glasgow, is seen as a legacy of Glasgow’s year of architecture and design in 1999.
