No identity yet for Barclays

Barclays Bank has not yet committed itself to the development of a new corporate identity, but is reviewing a number of elements of its branding, says a spokeswoman for the bank.

She confirms the bank’s appointment of Newell and Sorrell to one major branding project. The consultancy “will be looking at a number of design issues for us,” she says.

“There are a whole load of design projects, mostly internal, being looked at. Our visual identity is not part of that at the present time,” she adds.

Newell and Sorrell is believed to have beaten Landor and at least one other consultancy in the pitch. A Newell and Sorrell spokeswoman declines to comment on the project.
