Nickelodeon takes on creative director

Cable channel Nickelodeon is launching a children’s channel called Nick Jr. In order to cope with additional branding demands it has promoted former head of on-air promotions Steve Shannon to the new post of UK creative director.

The new channel’s identity was created by the in-house creative team at Nickelodeon under Shannon’s supervision, and will formally launch in September.

“We haven’t really had a creative director before, so it’s a new position based around the two channels which we are now going to be running,” says a Nickelodeon spokeswoman.

The September launch will see Shannon’s previous role extended to include the “creative look and promotion” of the existing channel, as well as Nick Jr, both on and off air.

Shannon will report to Nickelodeon director of programmes Howard Litton.
