Supermarket Starbucks

Sainsbury’s and Starbucks are combining to open six coffee shops inside Sainsbury’s supermarkets. The first is due to open in Sainsbury’s flagship store at Greenwich Peninsula, which opens next month. Interiors are by Amalgam Design.

Sainsbury’s already operates some 180 restaurants and coffee shops. Existing partnerships include a one-off scheme with Perfection Coffee in London’s Clapham store. However, a spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s says this is the first partnership with a chain of eateries.

Sainsbury’s has entered into a three year exclusivity agreement with Starbucks, which last year bought Seattle Coffee Company, the UK chain.
