EU identity under debate

The much-publicised trawl to find an identity for the European Union will not necessarily result in a new marque, according to Demos senior researcher Mark Leonard, author of the report Making Europe Popular: The Search for European Identity.

The Demos report on Europe is the first stage in a research programme which will end in June, coinciding with the UK’s six-month presidency of the EU. Funded by Interbrand Newell and Sorrell, the study has found that 80 per cent of Europeans are uninformed about the EU and most do not support their countries’ membership.
