Natalie Spencer continues the monthly selection of graphics projects

As part of the Community HIV and AIDS Prevention Strategy, Think. Talk. Time to Test? is the new campaign led by The Terrence Higgins Trust. Spencer Rowell was commissioned by Jaffe Keating, to photograph a series of images to raise awareness among gay and bisexual men of the benefits of knowing their HIV status. Stuart Pocock, partner at Jaffe Keating, says: ‘We needed to create outstanding advertising… to catch the target audience’s attention and make them think about these complex issues.’

Fonda commissioned 12 illustrators, represented by the Central Illustration Agency, to produce work for the 1998 Fonda calendar. The illustrations have varying themes and contain the number eight, either in a numerical or abstract form. Jacqueline Mair illustrates the month of March with a collage of miscellaneous items. ‘Creative illustration is an exciting solution to visually expressing ideas in a different way,’ says Fonda creative director Ian Pape.

Robert Walker was commissioned by Elmwood to photograph images for ICI Acrylics’ Lucite brand. The images were initially used for a coffee-table book based on indulgence, passion and intimacy, accompanied by love-themed poetry. The campaign – In love, in deep, in Lucite – was extended to include a calendar, CD and leaflet. Elmwood director Paul Middlebrook believes: ‘The design work for ICI Lucite captures the deeply personal pleasure of bathing and celebrates the sensuality of that experience.’
