Overhaul for Sunday Express magazine

This weekend’s Sunday Express magazine will have a “totally new look” which will “radically define it from all other Sunday magazines”, according to its designer.

Art director and associate editor Tom Reynolds has designed all but the masthead, which is the creation of Housestyle designer Dave Farey. “We’re going for the lifestyle, living, home-type features, the sort of material you’d expect in a glossy interiors-type monthly,” explains Reynolds, who will cut back editorial in favour of pictorial impact. Photographs will be backed up by fact boxes, and the emphasis will be “clean, bright and punchy”. Farey, who created mastheads for the European and Design Week, says: “We wanted to bring the magazine into 1995. It was looking a bit smug and comfortable.”
