New posters for the British Council

Johnson Banks has repeated its award-winning poster formula for the British Council, juxtaposing images showing the diversity of British culture over the years.

‘We decided to build on what had gone before,’ says Johnson Banks creative director Michael Johnson.

The big difference in the brief four years from the first commission was that the designs had to centre on the UK rather than Britain, giving Northern Ireland a showing.

The UK ‘birds’: Thunderbird and Aardman Animations’ chicken; and the two Macs: British designer Jonathan Ive’s Apple iMac set on a Charles Rennie Mackintosh chair.
