Sound research must back up a point of view

I was taken by the very inventive article on the Royal College of Art’s Summer Show in Reality Bites (DW 28 June). More specifically the piece by Johnson Banks creative director Michael Johnson.

His writing stirred me into dashing off this response stimulated by his remarks. Surely, in reality, any designer of merit, appreciates that to construct a valid point of view requires sound research, or we become subjected to preconceptions and prejudiced opinion.

I refer to his skilful articulation of the perceived staffing responsibilities in the graphic design area of the department of communication art and design. Can I suggest to Johnson that should he, at some future date, be inspired to employ his literary style on the subject for which I take responsibility, he might contact me.
