The early birds caught the worms at New Blood

In response to Benn Achilleas, I also went to the D&AD New Blood event in London. I only queued for three or four minutes because I arrived when it opened at 7pm and I was offered a cold beer within seconds. They were being dispatched at a furious rate, which probably explains why there were none left for you by 8pm.

But let’s face it, D&AD isn’t made of money, so inevitably the booze ran out. Hell, there are plenty of events in London where you can find a free drink.

Yes, it was hot – most of London is hot and there were three floors to discover, three floors of cracking design with committed students and staff.

In the past couple of weeks I have been inviting students in from their various degree shows and have been surprised by the number who have already been offered placements or internships in print-based positions.

Finding good designers is like finding good clients – it’s hard graft.
