Design power centre planned

A consortium of design industry representatives met last week to table proposals for a new venue for design and the creative industries in London’s disused Battersea Power Station.

Instigated by Terence Conran, the group included leading figures from the Design Council, British Design & Art Direction, The Design Business Association and others. It aims to create a London “powerhouse of design”.

Design Council chief executive Andrew Summers hopes to speak to owners the Hwang family about its plans to convert the station into a leisure and retail complex.
