SMC Alsop commissioned to design £70m museum development

Recently rebadged architect SMC Alsop has been commissioned to design a £70m museum development called the Power Plant, overlooking the Hudson River in Yonkers, New York City.

The project is being overseen by the Remi Corporation and will include the construction of a 25-storey residential tower, featuring a wind turbine for self-sufficient energy production.

The Power Plant is scheduled for completion in 2008 and will mean that the architect can ‘secure a foothold’ in the US. In March, Alsop did a deal with SMC Group to rescue the ailing practice.
