With regard to David Bernstein’s Private View (DW 23 May), British Design & Art Direction would like to issue the following statement:

‘D&AD would like to establish that decisions made by Peter Souter in his capacity as executive creative director of Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, are independent of his role as D&AD president.

With regard to our existing and future policy on cheating, we will continue to take a robust approach.

The problem is not endemic, but in any competition there are always a few rogue elements, and D&AD will always act against those few in favour of the many.

D&AD’s existing judging procedures are already very thorough, and often involve requesting media schedules and written confirmation from clients.

As we plan for the 2003 Awards further means and sanctions are being considered as part of the entry terms and conditions.’
