Markel communications pack makes Rhodes sense

Rhodes Design has developed a corporate communications pack for Markel International, the insurance underwriting syndicate.

The work, which is distributed this week, is worth a five-figure fee to the consultancy.

The pack targets analysts, insurance brokers and shareholders and consists of an A4 wallet and a series of four-page leaflets for each of the company’s seven divisions, says Markel marketing and communications director Alexandra Rocca.

This is the first time corporate literature for the divisions has been brought together and the images on each leaflet were intended to reflect ‘the essence of each division’, Rocca says.

‘In insurance a lot of stock library photos are used in not terribly imaginative ways. We were looking for something more abstract, but with recognisable links to our products,’ she adds.

The consultancy was briefed to create a look that was eye-catching, subtle and sophisticated, says designer Craig Bowman.

To maintain the feeling of unity, a palette of simple complementary colours was used and a background grid was developed to create a feeling of stability, he adds.

Rhodes Design was appointed to the project in March following a three-way creative pitch.
