Northcross’s attempt at Tiso

Outdoor retailer Graham Tiso has appointed Edinburgh-based Northcross to design interiors at its latest store, the first time the retailer has worked with a design consultancy.

The 372m2 store, which will open in June, will be based at Edinburgh’s new adventure centre at Ratho Quarry. The centre will house Europe’s largest climbing wall and adventure gym and is perceived as a ‘great draw for Tiso’s target audience’, says Northcross director Ewan McCarthy.

The retailer appointed the group because the store will play a brand promotion role and required ‘out of the ordinary’ display solutions, he adds.

‘It not a high street situation so Tiso’s wants to be more adventurous with formats and feature displays specific to the environment,’ McCarthy says.

The consultancy is planning interactive displays and ‘will pick up details’ like rope suspension and cables from the building, which features ‘innovative engineering’, McCarthy adds.

The group was appointed without a pitch on the strength of previous work and McCarthy will work with senior designer Nick East on the project.
