D&AD swaps steaks for ‘sawdust’ at awards

Forget Apple’s Gold Award for the iMac, well deserved though it is. The real talking point at last week’s D&AD Awards bash was the food.

Gone, it seems, are the days of the steaks so beloved by the Eighties ad stars, when caterers at the separate designers’ do served up salmon. Now both sides of the industry are reunited over a plate of vegetarian fare.

Revellers enjoyed sharing the Middle Eastern starters passing bowls is one way of breaking the ice with fellow diners. But the main course a latticed pasty affair stuffed with dubious vegetable matter left many wanting.

‘Sawdust’, was one critic’s verdict on the taste. No Gold Awards there then.
