Savage cure for awful designer posturing

It was a case of back to basics for staff at Design Bridge last week. They were treated to physiotherapy sessions in an effort to prevent spinal damage.

Husband and wife team Paul and Janine Savage spent the week with the consultancy’s 110 workers, providing posture assessments in seminar groups and at workstations.

Subjects covered included advice on the correct seating position, the location of the computer screen and the amount of light they work in. Each of the employees was also given wrist and lumber supports.

Personnel manager Johanna Bowers says the workshops were needed because of designers’ ‘awful postures’. ‘They spend a lot of time at their workstations so we thought it would be a good idea to educate them on the serious damage they can do to their spines,’ she says.
